Stainless steel is a noble alliance (chrome, nickel, steel) with no surface teatments. It's easy to maintain and it's very durable over the long term. It's the ideal material for any type of commercial building or healthcare facilities. That's why DELABIE chose this material, and offers a wide range of products made from stainless steel (sinks, WCs, urinals, washbasins, grab bars, waste bins, coat hooks, etc.).
Discover our tips for cleaning and refurbishing stainless steel so that your DELABIE products remain in perfect condition throughout their lifespan.
Stainless steel, the professional's choice
Stainless steel is bacteriostatic: bacterial retention after cleaning is extremely low, up to 20 times less than other materials such as glass or plastic. A thin, invisible protective layer forms continuously when in contact with air and water (self-passivation). Even if the surface is damaged mechanically, the stainless steel is protected against corrosion.
To guarantee the anti-corrosion characteristics of stainless steel, it is essential to always keep the surface clean. Stainless steel can be cleaned on a daily basis with hot water and soap, using a sponge. Rinse well with clean water then dry with a soft, clean cloth. It is also possible to use specific stainless steel cleaners. There is a wide variety on the market. Respect the indicated dosage carefully. The important thing is to always rinse well with clean water after applying cleaning products and then dry with a soft, clean cloth.
How can you remove rust from stainless steel?
Stainless steel does not rust. On the other hand, if stainless steel comes into contact with inappropriate chemicals or cleaning products, stains or pitting may appear. In this case, it's not oxidation of the material but oxidation of the surface. The stained or pitted product should be cleaned immediately with a mild detergent or a soft abrasive cloth. Rinse well with clean water then dry with a soft cloth.
WARNING: stainless steel products must be protected when using a cement film or laitance remover which can cause serious damage to stainless steel. Likewise, during construction work that could be carried out near stainless steel products (sparks during welding, polishing, grinding, cutting, etc.).
How can you remove a scratch from stainless steel and make it shine?
Stainless steel is susceptible to scratches and micro-abrasions. Its surface will develop a patina over time. Slight scratches can be removed by appying white toothpaste or baking soda along the grain line, then rinse well.
The shine of stainless steel can be revived using Pierre d'Argent (a natural, biodegradable cleaning product). Traces of limescale can removed using a diluted preparation of white vinegar (80% water, 20% vinegar).
Choose your stainless steel products wisely
Choosing a higher quality product means that it will be easier to maintain. DELABIE products are made from bacteriostatic 304 stainless steel, one of the most superior qualities of stainless steel on the market. They are designed to minimise the joints and seams to avoid the build-up of dirt and niches where bacteria can develop, making them easier to clean.
