The Swiss architecture firm, owned and run by Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, 2001
Pritzker Prize winners, has designed a surprisingly open stadium in Bordeaux: a forest of white posts that perfectly echoes the magnificent Landes Forest that covers the region.

TEMPLE OF SOCCER
The Matmut Atlantique Stadium was unveiled for the 2016 UEFA Euro soccer championship. A structure that is monumental, yet delicate, located between the Parc Floral and the Bordeaux Woods. 42,000 seats for fans, entirely covered, give the stadium the 6th largest capacity in France.
Its geometric clarity and layout make it appear both grandiose and gracious.
While some see echoes of a classical temple, others wax lyrical about the thousand white posts that blend with the stairways, as if to sow doubt about what is inside and outside. An esthetic choice which does not obscure its true purpose, hosting large-scale sporting and cultural events, that thrum through the rafters.
